Nicole Chui ‘Dragon Year’
To celebrate the Lunar New year and welcome the Year of the Dragon Nicole Chui was commissioned by NOW Gallery to create an installation for Bureau restaurant in Greenwich Peninsula.
Nicole created the double sided ‘Dragon Year’, an embroidery piece on silk inspired by the fierce nobleness and empathy of the dragon in the Chinese zodiac story. The dragon came fifth of the twelve animals in The Great Race of the Zodiac myth, having stopped to bring rain to a village on fire and assist the helpless rabbit.
On one side the embroidery reads the phrase “Hustle at Your Own Pace”, a phrase as reminder to take a moment and reflect on our goals and where we are at. On the other the Dragon breathes good fortune signalling an optimistic start to the year with blessings in the air.
Nicole’s work is on display at Bureau Restaurant until 24th February.
