Californian 3D illustrator Melissa Mathieson, now based in Montréal, practised fine art before turning her hand to creating a strictly 3D world. Her world is inspired by all things whimsical and nostalgic, taking inspiration from the nature of her hometown on the Californian coast, surrealism and the vibrant elements of city life.
Cute and quirky animals and characters populate Melissa illustrations, packed with blooming flora and bright and bold urban details, all realised in an electric colour palette with sumptuous textures. Melissa also explores the possibilities of 3D typography and how her 3D world translates to the real world. In addition to client work, she has collaborated with Mapp Japan to create a series of projections in both Tokyo and Yokohama.
Her clients include Apple, Microsoft, Google, The New York Times, Mailchimp, VICE, TicTac, and DoorDash.
