Joey Han is an illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. Originally from Portland, Maine, he studied illustration at Rhode Island School of Design and Modern Culture and Media at Brown. His illustrations often circle around memory and place, particularly how environments, both built and natural, shape what we hold onto.
Combining traditional and digital techniques his work is pleasingly nostalgic and simultaneously contemporary. Joey brings a depth and emotion to the everyday whilst also imbuing his compositions with a dream like quality via his rendering of light and peaceful scenarios.
In 2025 Joey co-founded The Barley Field, a literary and visual arts magazine for emerging voices, which he art directs and designs. When he’s not drawing, he’s usually wandering New York in search of good food, movies and music.
Joey’s work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue Business, MOLD Magazine, Barron’s, Konfekt Magazine, The Telegraph Magazine and Penguin Random House.
