Clément Thoby’s illustrations are a testament to his passion for colour. Working in grease pencil, coloured pencil and oil pastel each scene is like an impressionist painting with a vibrantly contemporary palette and 21st century composition. Inspired by his travels and interested in the juxtaposition of light and shadow, particularly in natural landscapes, every illustration is rich in atmosphere and deeply evocative of time and place.
Clément studied animation at the École des Métiers du Cinéma d’Animation and the hand drawn nature of his work gives a natural sense of movement that imbues his illustrations with life. Elegant and timeless, he has worked across editorial, publishing and commercial projects.
Clément’s previous clients include Burberry, CHANEL, Expedia, The New Yorker, Les Echos, The New York Review of Books and Die Zeit.
